Falling In Love With The Future

We need practice dreaming of the beautiful future we wish to bring into being.

The writer Amitav Ghosh describes our collective failure to act on climate change not as a crisis of policy or technology or infrastructure, but as a crisis of the imagination. Now is the time to rebuild our collective capacity to imagine a beautiful future.

We invite you not just to talk about the future, but to join us there. At the start of the workshop, we will turn on Groundwork’s time machine and open a time portal into the near future (2032) where humanity has chosen a different path than business-as-usual.

We will spend the day dreaming, drawing, drafting delightful designs, and discussing the dramatic distance between our present world and the near future we will be visiting. You can expect the workshop to be active, fun, and engaging—it’s part reflection, part visioning, part theater game, part grief, and part radical hope. Our goal in using our time machine is to offer people a space that exists outside the ordinary, where the future becomes a tangible memory.

This workshop is an excellent space for teachers, activists, and anybody working towards a better future to:

We want you to walk away feeling that, in the words of time traveler activist Rob Hopkins, you have fallen in love with the future.
